1m F/8 Ritchey Chrétien with dual Nasmyth Foci, Cape Town (South Africa)

Another large telescope for the South African Astronomical Observatory (SAAO). An 1m F/8 Alt-Az mounted Ritchey Chrétien for robotic use. It has dual Nasmyth Foci. The main telescopes used for research are located at the SAAO observing station (32°22.795’S 20°48,657’E) near Sutherland in the Northern Cape, a 4-hour drive from Cape Town.

Sbig (Santa Barbara Instrument Group) is a well-known brand that manufactures filter wheels and other astronomy equipment. Their filter wheels are often found in high-quality astronomical camera systems and are used by amateur astronomers and professional researchers worldwide.

The AFW-16-36 R is designed for the SBIG Aluma AC 2020 BSI. The filter wheel can hold a maximum of 16 round filters with a diameter of 36 mm (filter thicknesses 1, 2 and 3 mm). With an additional STX adapter plate, the filter wheel can also be used together with the legendary STX and STXL camera models.

The AFW-12-50 R is designed for the SBIG Aluma AC 2020 BSI and the SBIG ALUMA AC 4040 FSI/BFI. The filter wheel can hold a maximum of 12 round filters with a diameter of 50 mm (filter thicknesses 1, 2 and 3 mm). With an additional STX adapter plate, the filter wheel can also be used together with the legendary STX and STXL camera models.

The AFW-12-50 R is available in a special version and accepts filter thicknesses of 1, 2, 3 and 5 mm.

The AFW-10-50 SQ is designed for the SBIG ALUMA AC 4040. and for the SBIG Aluma AC 2020 BSIThe filter wheel can hold a maximum of 10 square filters with an edge length of 50 mm x 50 mm (filter thicknesses of 1, 2 and 3 mm). With an additional STX adapter plate, the filter wheel can also be used together with the legendary STX and STXL camera models.

SBIG Filters and Guide

All SBIG filter wheels only require an additional back focus of 14 mm and are fully compatible with the SBIG OffAxis autoguider StarChaser SC-3E and the adaptive optics AO-X.

sbig adapterStill too few filter slots for you? The highlight of the AFW: With a special dual filter wheel adapter, you can couple 2 (identical) filter wheels. This provides a total of 22 free filter slots for the AWF-12 and 18 for the AFW-10.
